Cheerleading: Our Driving Force Is What Keeps Us Going

Updated: Nov 17, 2022

Freshman Ashley Hampton on the Fall 2022 Cheer Season

On the field we are perfection, but in practice, we are nothing but humans. Cheerleading is a sport that involves cheering, dancing, and dancing in an organized fashion. Ashley Holwerda is our coach, and she is the best coach I think each and every one of us has had. She is firm in her beliefs of kindness and hard-work, but her love for teaching us about cheer and life lessons that will carry us through life.

Our practice contains warming up, stunting, drilling our state performance, and lastly conditioning. This may not seem like a lot, but it really is. This sport takes work, and this work includes 2-3 hours of practice, 3 days a week, along with a game on Friday. On top of that, we have school, which can be a challenge. Even though we may want to give up, our driving force keeps us going.

In addition, we had our state competition in early November at Middle Tennessee State University. We were so happy that we got to compete in this competition because most teams do not have this opportunity. Our competitors were so nice, and we loved dancing with them backstage. Plus, we got 5th place. We have learned so much this season, and we are continuing to learn something new in every single practice.

On an ending note, my team's hope for the future cheerleaders is that they carry on the CCS legacy and continue to create a positive environment for every cheerleader that walks through the gym doors.
